Komsomolskoye Lake.

Komsomolskoye Lake is one the favourite recreational places of Minsk residents. Komsomolskoye Lake is an artificial water reservoir in the north-west of Minsk formed by a dam over the river Swislotch and a foundation pit.

The transformation of future lake’s territory started as early as before the Great Patriotic War. The residents of Minsk and nearby villages turned the wetland into a recreation area by hand, working with spades and carts. The opening was planned for 22 July 1941, but it did not take place. The war started.

After the war, the reservoir was rebuilt and a picturesque park was layed out around it. There was a boating and rescue station, as well as a billiard club on the lake. In 1974, the lake was cleaned and deepened.

Today the vast park surrounding the lake has run a bit wild, the trees have spread, some paths are overgrown, and new paths emerged… City authorities have decided to reconstruct the park and improve the neighbourhood.

The plans include construction of a memorial complex, building a number of children playgrounds and a youth entertainment centre.

In addition, on the initiative of the “BNK Engineering” companies group and its director Mr. Abdo Romeo Abdo, the area will soon get the first Belarusian five-star “Hyatt Regency” hotel. The work over the project is in full swing. The best Belarusian and foreign specialists are involved in the design development.

That is why the future of Komsomolskoye Lake is much promising. From an obstructive construction, it will turn into one of the most picturesque places of the city of Minsk.
